Following an escape of water that saturated the ground floor of our detached house, our home insurer denied our claim. The insurer had initially commissioned a survey which identified the property was damp, but then commissioned another survey which said it was dry.

We provided a further survey from another independent surveyor showing the floors were still damp, but the insurer still denied our claim. We realised we would need to go to the financial ombudsman service to recover our costs and we needed stronger evidence to support our claim. None of the surveys that had been carried out up to this point were by a chartered building surveyor, so we appointed Tom Green Surveying (TGS) to assess our property as he was a fully chartered building surveyor and an expert witness.

Tom Green attended our property within tight timescales and provided a report showing the floors were still damp. The report was provided to the ombudsman who agreed with our claim and made the insurer pay all of our costs, which were over £60,000. Without the report by Tom Green Surveying, it is unlikely we would have been successful in our claim, so we are extremely grateful for his professional help and report.
